- Movement: it rotates by means of the flagella and undulating membrane, so fast-moving live organisms can be seen on a wet-mount slide;
- Parasitic sites: the mouth, pharynx, oesophagus and crop; in severe cases it invades organs such as the liver (the organ form).
Because it has no cyst, Trichomonas must rely on direct contact for transmission and cannot survive in the environment for long the way cyst-forming protozoa do — which is why cutting off transmission through pigeon milk is the core of control.
